Near Marseilles the land drops quickly to the clear blue Mediterranean in a rocky jumble, creating cliff protected pockets of private beach reachable by winding one lane roads--roads that are only open during certain periods of the day or to local residents.

The guide books promised an enjoyable walk in from the parking area and a refreshing day spent swimming as the reward for the hike.  Based on that promising description, we decided to give it a go.  What the books did not mention was that the hide was 3 kilometers of heavy up and down on winding switchbacks.  Especially exciting with six young children and beach gear!

As difficult as the hike may have been,  the water was worth it.  Perfectly transparent and oh so refreshing.

The next time we will get there early enough to drive in and we will make it a point to bring lunch---but that is another story...
