Basilica di San Vitale

Construction was begun in 527 and first completed in 548 AD under the Byzantine empire. The detailed and intricate decorations are typically Byzantine. However, the guide books also indicate that much of the construction techniques are Roman showing the blending of the two empires in the history of Ravenna.

As with most buildings of such great age, modifications and "improvements" have been made over the ages, leaving us with the beauty we see today.
