For Alex's 7th birthday, we went to Disneyland Paris. It's located just west of Paris and 45 minutes north of our house in Avon. It is almost as close as King's Island was to our home in Loveland. Almost, but not quite.
We visited on the last Thursday in April. This is a good time to visit as most folks are in school and the park is virtually empty. We spent most of the day in Fanasyland and rarely spent more than 15 minutes in a line. We were doubley blessed in that the day was warm and sunny. A nice spring holiday.
In size, it's more like Disneyland than Disneyworld. In one long day we were able to see just about everything the kids are big enough to ride. Once Alex gains enough height to make it onto the larger roller coasters, this will change.
Alex had his first roller coaster ride and loved it. He and I rode the mine ride in Frontierland. While we were standing in the never-ending line, Lori and Juli rode the river boats and tried to catch pictures of us on the ride. Even though we spent more than 30 minutes in the line, Alex wanted to go back and try again! I agreed, but on another day!
Alex also enjoyed the Star Wars ride. Just the wait in the line with C3PO and the other droids was worth it. The ride itself was a big success--with Alex. Juli was just old enough to go on the virtual reality type ride. She decided that she doesn't like going in space. We'll see--it's amazing what they can do with hydraulic servos.
One of the other big successes was the teacup ride. Both Juli and Alex love the high speed spinning. Mom and Dad didn't mind so much either.
Juli also had a fun day and wants to go back for her birthday. Since we purchased annual passes, this should not be a problem.
She did have one adventure that clearly stands out in her memory. Early in the morning she met up with Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. She didn't know who they were and tried to run. They wanted to shake hands. The result was similar to watching two large people try to catch a chicken in a barn yard--with Juli as the chicken. After a good laugh and many screams (of delight?) they finally caught each other and could shake hands. Juli now remembers this every time we watch the movie Alice in Wonderland.
The day ended with the everybody's favorite: Pooh and Friends. Juli and Alex enjoyed the bilingual re-enactment of the movie. Lori and I enjoyed the chance to rest.
All-in-all the day was a great success and one we hope to repeat fairly often.
Here's some pictures from the day.
