Located in a bend of the Nançon river in western France, Fougères has been an
important fortress since about the year 1000. It is now the largest
medieval fortress in Europe.
We stopped there on a sunny afternoon to explore the walls and to let the kids (and Perri) run free before our final drive home. We were impressed by the complexity of the defenses and the beauty of the construction. The children loved the nooks and crannies that were there to be explored and the free spaces for running. Perri loved being one of the kids. Scroll down to explore the walls with us. |
