Where the Rhone river empties into the Mediterranean Sea, there is a very
large alluvial plane of more than 300 square miles. The Camargue.
The Camargue is known for wildlife (especially the birds), pure white horses,
ranches, marshes, salt flats, and mosquitoes.
We found all of these to some
extent, but not as much as we expected. The Camargue is a wild and open
space best explored from horse back. Since we did not have particularly
good luck finding someone to take us all on a tour, we did not spend much time
here.
