When looking to go on vacation, one of the most difficult decisions is where
to stay. Hotels can be convenient but also noisy and expensive.
Camping trailers are another choice, but with other obvious problems. Here
in France there is another choice--the Gite. A gite is a home, usually on
a working farm, where you rent a furnished house for one week periods. You
provide the bedding and food, they provide everything else and at a very
competitive rate.
For our trip to Provence, Lori found a gite on the north
side of the Camargue with four bedrooms and space for all ten of us. It
was wonderful. Well furnished and quiet, our gite gave us a well located
base of operations between the beaches and the cities as well as a farm full of
places for the kids to go and explore.
